KITCHEN: Before and After

Filed in Posts by on November 7, 2011 5 Comments

It’s been a while since I’ve taken pictures of my kitchen. I think it’s because it consistently stays MESSY with 2 little ones running around :) But anyhow, here is what it looked like when we moved in, December 2010:

Wallpapered….stinky cabinets…..tiled backsplash….and ugly counter tops:
AFTER….(This picture is dark because the lights were out, and I wanted to capture the “coziness” of the evening :)

We still haven’t upgraded to stainless steel appliances yet. I guess when you’ve got a whole host of other things that need attention, a working stove and fridge is juuuuust fine :)
Here are some other “BEFORE” pics, as well as some others during construction!
And, you know….it would have been totally fine painting these babies white. Would have been a whole helluva lot cheaper, too. But the smell inside–blech! I couldn’t imagine putting my food and dishes in them!
Please excuse the poor quality of some of these pics. I was using my old camera phone. Now, of course, I’ve got the nice iPhone4s! :) But yeah, so this is what the kitchen looked like as old cabinets were being removed.
….and new (still dark) cabinets were put in place. They’re darker than I had wanted, but in hindsight, they were a good choice:
 …Come along…..
And here we are, present day! A bit dark….sorry! I will take better photos soon! And I’m actually thinking of RE-painting soon, because I’m not lovin’ the school bus yellow. LOL
Those poor appliances stick out like sore thumbs!! No worries….when the time (er–MONEY) is right, we’ll upgrade to nice stainless steel appliances. In the meantime, they FUNCTION, so I’ll take it :)
BEFORE
AFTER
I couldn’t be happier with the results! Who cares if it took nearly a year?? :)

  1. Serena,

LOVE the kitchen. I actually love the yellow on the walls but then again it’s not staring me in the face first thing in the morning :)

P.S. Ever thought of starting your own handywoman business? You’re great at remodels.

Hey, Michelle! Thanks for your comment! Funny you mention the yellow walls because I JUST found an “oops” paint at Home Depot that was only $7.00 and a very light, but BRIGHT yellow, and I’m sooo tempted to try it out. I’m afraid it might be TOO bright. Why can’t I find the perfect shade of yellow? LOL. And no, as much as I love the handywoman idea, I haven’t even used a circular saw yet!! (YET…..). LOL

We too had to rip out cabinets. It is a chore. We Lso went with dark cabinets and I am going to paint the kitchen…….yellow. I love the yellow and dark cabinet combo. Our old house had all yellow toned (the color was called Dijon from Benjamin Moore) walls and ceilings too. But with the crown moulding and thick baseboards it was amazing. So I wanted that look again for my kitchen. I found a color yesterday at The Home Depot that was comparable. It is Behr and called Cellini Gold. It is a warm yellow. Not so bright. I thi it will be nice. Your kitchen looks amazing though. Great job!

LOVE IT! And I agree, it is a very similar color to my laundry room. Love the cabinets. I think they’d go well with turquoise :)
